Finding the Latest Firmware for Your Siemens PLC
We recommend that you download the firmware for your PLC from the Siemens Website only. Be aware that there are 3rd party websites that may host these files - they could be compromised.
In this section, we’ll focus on the two PLCs above and locate the firmware on the Siemens website.
Step 1 - Navigate to the Siemens Support Website
Step 1.1 - Via any browser, go to “https://support.industry.siemens.com/”
Step 2 - Find the Firmware Download Page for Your PLC
Step 2.1 - Using the Search Function of the Siemens Website, type in “PART # + firmware” & Press the “Enter” key.
Note that your search will yield many results. In most cases, the most recent firmware download page will be the first result. However, we recommend that you go through at least the top 5 results and make sure that you’re navigating to the correct page. Look for titles that mention “firmware” and articles that have been recently updated. In other words, if the page hasn’t been updated in over a year, it may not be the latest firmware (Note: depends on the PLC).
Step 3 - Download the Firmware for Your PLC
Now that you’ve located the page for your specific device, it’s time to download the firmware you need. In most cases, the page will provide all the firmware versions you’ve found in TIA Portal. It’s important to note that there are minor versions beyond what was shown. For example, TIA Portal will specify V2.9 while the Siemens website will have V2.9.1, V2.9.3, etc. We recommend that you download the latest version as shown below.
Step 3.1 - Locate your PLC model.
Step 3.2 - Download the latest firmware.
Notice that you’ll need to login or create an account (for free) to download the firmware. You may also be asked to confirm a contract before downloading software.
